Artist gets inspiration from the Petrified Forest

For the third year running, artist Robert Thacker displays his newly inspired paintings at Calke Abbey

Robert’s work provides an evocative view of trees, woodland and the landscape of Calke Abbey with much of his inspiration being shaped by a recent trip to the US.  Robert will be revealing his new paintings at the “timescape:traces” art exhibition at Calke Abbey from 7th to 22nd August 2010.  Robert commented recently “These pieces are a completely new direction for me.  The inspiration coming from the colours I observed in the Petrified Forest region of Arizona which I visited earlier in the year.”

Robert continued, “The colours have been combined with imagery representing the feeling I get from the trees in Calke Park. The result is a series of large format paintings. You can see some of them on my website www.robertthacker.co.uk’

The Petrified Forest region is so named as it features one of the world’s largest and most colourful spectacles of petrified trees.  Wood is petrified over many years, however it retains the appearance of tree trunks with the structure of stone though permineralisation.

Robert has had a very exciting 2010 so far as he has also produced a book of his aerial images (http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1409490). These photographs link with his work at Calke Abbey as to him the images are reminiscent of the dendritic shapes found in the trees at the Park.
